Same card, added safety online
Take the VISA card you already use, add a password to confirm online purchases, and you’ve got Verified by Visa. It’s the new service that helps ensure that only you can use your VISA card online. VISA always protects you against unauthorized purchases. But, with Verified by Visa, you can help prevent unauthorized purchases before they happen.

Why you should enroll, even if you don’t shop online
Even if you don’t shop online, you should still activate your card with Verified by Visa in order to protect yourself from someone who may try to use your card fraudulently online. By securing your account with a password, you are avoiding the inconvenience of unauthorized purchases.

Here’s how it works
Verified by Visa is a new service that protects the Visa Credit or Debit Card that you already have. So once you activate Verified by Visa:

  • At participating online stores, your card will be automatically recognized as protected by Verified by Visa.
  • Your password will be verified.
  • The transaction will be completed as usual.

When can I activate my card with Verified by Visa?
BWCU members can already activate their Classic and Platinum VISA Credit Cards. VISA Debit Cards will be available for activation on June 6, 2003. Create your own password at www.visa.com/verified.

Security that’s linked to your card, not your computer
With Verified by Visa you can use your card to shop with added safety from any computer that has Internet access. Verified by Visa will require Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 and above, Netscape Navigator 4.08 and above, or AOL 5x and above.

Go to www.visa.com/shopverified for a list of participating merchants.

Features and Benefits

Research indicates that about 3% of VISA commerce transactions occur over the Internet, yet these transactions account for 8% of all card account fraud committed. As a result, many cardholders are hesitant to make online purchases.

Verified by Visa offers several benefits for cardholders, financial institutions, and merchants. By providing better security over the Internet for financial transactions, Verified by Visa can help your institution lower the percentage of fraudulent transactions.

Verified by Visa's general objective is to provide enhanced security to online electronic commerce transactions. By providing better security for cardholders, Verified by Visa accomplishes the following goals:

  • Improves Internet purchases
  • Reduces operational expense
  • Reduces risk associated with Internet transactions

Cardholder's Involvement in Verified by Visa
Cardholder participation is a key component in the Verified by Visa program's success. For cardholders to participate, they must register with their issuing financial institution. They will need to provide account information, validate their identity, and agree to all of the terms and conditions of the Verified by Visa service.
