Today is August 5th – Primary Elections.
WHY SHOULD YOU VOTE?
- To speak your mind
- For your children
- For your community
- For yourself
- To honor history
- To control your future
- To stop something
- To start something
- To win
- To make politicians listen
Our legislators make the laws we have to follow every day and they impact our lives from the moment we turn off our pesky alarm clock and drag ourselves out of bed to get ready for work to the time we relax in front of the TV when we get home from the kids’ practice. Does your vote really make a difference? YES! Our elected officials work for us. And the good news is YOU GET A SAY IN THE DECISION— by voting!
By not voting, you are giving away your right that is the foundation of our democracy. You have no say in the destination of our future. More importantly, however, not voting takes away the "will of the majority that governs this country, and replaces it with the will of the minority". The Twenty-fourth amendment to the United States Constitution states: the right of citizens of the United States to vote in any primary or other election for President or Vice President, for electors for President or Vice President, or for Senator or Representative in Congress shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State (The U.S. Constitution 54).
Voting is a cherished Constitutional Right many have fought for, marched for, and died for. Millions of people around the world have no say in who governs them, so don't squander your own power. This sacred right has been guaranteed to all citizens of this nation—take the initiative to vote for someone and something that reflects your overall views and make a difference.
